Disney’s High School Musical great success after its premiere on Disney Channel in January 2006 literally called out for a second instalment: More than 170 million viewers wordwide watched the feature film, including 75 million in Europe and 11 million in Germany, Austria and Switzerland alone. The teenage musical itself won numerous awards and the music to the film received platinum and golden records.
High School Musical has long become a cult and glamour movie in Germany; actors are now adored teen idols. The movie inspired many young people to do what Troy Gabriella and the Wildcats have done: To overcome the limits of their peer group and start something completely new.
High School Musical 2 made its debut in 2007 and even exceeded the prequels overwhelming success. Within only 80 days the movie reached 100 million viewers worldwide.
In October 2008 the clique from East High even made it to the silver screen with High School Musical 3: Senior Year. During their final high school year Troy and Gabriella realize that college dreams will soon separate their clique. So they utterly enjoy their last year – the basketball championship, the prom and the new spring musical: Together with Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, and Taylor the Wildcats prepare a brand new show. Fascinating music and amazing dance acts by the East High ensemble spread good mood. Even Troy’s inner conflicts and his breakup with Gabriella are wonderfully realized in music. Lots of new characters support the well-established stars and pave the way for new instalments of High School Musical.
