TAITO Corporation (TAITO®), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd has appointed CPLG to represent their classic video game brand Space Invaders across Central Europe, The UK, US and Canada.

Space Invaders needs little introduction – the first games hit Japanese arcades in 1978, resulting in a gaming craze that quickly spread from Japan to North America, Europe and the rest of the world. Since then Space Invaders has imprinted itself on the global consciousness and now enjoys an unparalleled level of worldwide popularity, whilst the famous image of the pixelated alien has become a cultural icon with a reach far beyond the world of video games.

CPLG will be looking to use Space Invaders’ huge appeal to extend the property across a wide range of sectors including apparel, gifts, stationary and unique promotions.

“TAITO is excited to be working with CPLG, who have a great reputation in building and maintaining strong licensing programmes across the world,” said Janet Swallow, VP Licensing Worldwide Eidos Label, part of Square Enix Group.

“We are thrilled to be representing Space Invaders,” says Karen McNally, Head of International Marketing & New Business at CPLG, “the property benefits from massive brand recognition and is instantly recognisable, which gives us a very strong platform to build on and we are looking forward to developing a strong and diverse licensing programme.”
