Smallfilms’ classic brand continues to be a hit at retail

Leading entertainment producer and rights management company Coolabi has secured a raft of new licensing deals for Bagpuss, one of the classic brands it represents on behalf of Smallfilms and Peter Firmin. These new deals highlight the ongoing popularity of the much-loved family favourite.

Pigment Productions has signed to produce a range of Bagpuss photographic greetings cards for a late Autumn 2011 launch, following the success of their range of cards last year for another classic Smallfilms and Peter Firmin property, Clangers.

Powerplay Textiles will be launching a range of adult nightwear, underwear and socks in Autumn 2011, with initial ranges being developed exclusively for Express Gift, while Shreds has recently signed to produce a range of children’s aprons and bags to be sold exclusively through Past Times stores.

Impressive sales of the Bagpuss microwaveable plush were reported last Christmas which has led Intelex to develop a more extensive range of Bagpuss products. New microwaveable slippers, slipper boots and neck warmers will be available from September 2011.

Finally, Coolabi has secured an exciting extension of the current illustrated greetings card deal with Museums & Galleries Marketing (MGML). With Bagpuss proving to be one of the most popular designs within its Spring 2011 Illustrators Range launch, the company has now extended its contract to include new birthday designs for mid-year release. Bagpuss Christmas cards will also be available for Christmas 2011. The ranges feature new designs by Dan Postgate, the son on Oliver Postgate, one of Bagpuss’ original creators.

Anna Hewitt, Coolabi’s Head of Licensing, says: “Following the significant increase in demand at retail last year, Bagpuss continues to demonstrate its strength as a key property both with consumers and licensees. We are very excited to work with our new and existing partners to launch these new ranges throughout 2011 as we further expand the brand.”
