When THE LION KING first entered the silver screen 17 years ago, the story of young lion prince Simba captured the hearts of a whole generation and laid the foundation for an unparalleled success story. At the box office the film became one of the most successful 2D animation films of all times. In Germany alone the movie lured more than 11 million cinema-goers into the theatres. What is more, the master piece won the Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song and earned two Golden Globes® for the same categories. On 10 November – almost two decades after their cinema debut – THE LION KING finally returns to the big screen – in stunning Disney Digital 3D™. To date the film made 50.4 million US $ in box office sales in the US and topped the US cinema charts for the last two weeks.
