NCPI Brazil launches SpongeBob SquarePants with Globaal Shoes

Mischievous yellow sea sponge SpongeBob SquarePants is set to liven up the feet of young fashionistas in Brazil following a deal between Nickelodeon Consumer Products International and Globaal Shoes.

Launching for autumn/winter 2011/12, the trainers collection is inspired by music and urban culture with a retro twist that brings in styling from the 1950s and 1960s.

Highlighting SpongeBob SquarePants' ‘green’ credentials, one of the styles uses faux leather while rock and punk music supply the themes.

Globaal is promoting the collections through its Facebook pages, inviting SpongeBob SquarePants fans to view the footwear on the social network at Globaal Shoes Brasil.

NCP signs ream of publishing deals globally

Nickelodeon Consumer Products has signed a ream of niche publishing deals covering children’s and young adult animation properties across Europe, Latin America and Japan. The specialist publications signed underline NCP’s success in taking its properties into new and developing sectors.

In Iceland, Sogur is set to delight children from two to six years old with Dora the Explorer colouring and activity books, sticker books, story books, work books, ‘lift the flap’ books and sound books.

Aiming for an older audience, Germany’s Blue Ocean Entertainment, has just published the first edition of a South Park magazine, distributed across Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Each issue of the quarterly magazine includes a fan giveaway. The initial print run was 80,000 copies.

In a ground breaking deal, Japanese publisher Takarajimasha is transforming made-for-mobile animated short film property Usavich, into a mook magazine. The mook, which includes a reader giveaway of the Usavich tote bag, an interview with the film’s creator, explanation of the characters and story lines and a product catalogue. To date, 130,000 copies have sold.

Takarajimasha has also just published the first official SpongeBob SquarePants fan publication for Japan, also in the form of a mook magazine. Complete with a pouch and bag giveaway, content covers international and Japanese domestic features including an introduction to SpongeBob SquarePants characters, storylines and interviews.

Another first in this category comes in the form of the debut iCarly magazine in Brazil, part of a wider multi-property deal with market leading international licensee Panini, through its Brazilian division Panini Brazil. Content includes story plots, games and photo-stories, plus guides on how to set up a website and start a blog.

Meanwhile NCP in the UK has been active with its publishing partners signing a brand new deal with specialist publisher Pedigree for a South Park comic annual. The South Park annual features two 64-page comics per release. The next release is scheduled for the autumn.
