The ‘Dawn of the Ocean’ iPad app, the first app to be coproduced by ZDF Enterprises and HOERZU WISSEN magazine published by publishing house Axel Springer, is now available via Apple iTunes. The content is based on ZDF’s three-part TV documentary ‘Terra X – Dawn of the Ocean’ and the associated, multiple-award-winning web content (bronze winner of the 2011 Social Games Award, nominated for the 2011 Golden Camera). ‘Dawn of the Ocean’ lets users assume the role of five different marine species (whale, shark, turtle, tuna, deep-sea crab) and explore their habitats at first hand. On this virtual voyage of discovery, users gain fascinating insights into how marine life coexists in the ocean’s highly complex ecosystem. Users discover the answers to questions such as: Why do whales use air bubbles to hunt their prey? How much of a threat to the oceans are climate change and dumping at sea? How does the underwater food chain work? How does a baby shark get by? ‘Dawn of the Ocean’ puts everything in context and provides substantive information on the topic of oceans, attractively packaged in game format but scientifically correct. With expert input from the writers and producers of the ZDF TV series and scientific advisers, the app incorporates the very latest knowledge on ocean life. The app is exclusive to iPad and is available now from the Apple App Store, priced at 3.99 Euros.
