Android version imminent as new Sabec game follows Scalextric smartphone success

The official Airfix Dogfight game app is ready for take-off! Licensed by Rocket Licensing and produced by Sabec, a developer of groundbreaking and popular games for amusement machines and mobile phones worldwide, the game is released in Wednesday July 27th. An Android version will be ready for download before the end of August.

The innovative new game combines the design expertise of Sabec and the universal recognition of the much-loved Hornby Hobbies brand with the crisp 3D graphics of the iPhone Retina Display to offer a truly immersive experience. Users choose from a range of classic Airfix craft, which includes everything from vintage WW1 fighters to modern super-jets. They are then faced with the challenge of progressing through the five game levels — completing missions, dodging flak from the ground and engaging in deadly dogfights with enemy pilots. There are five missions available with the download; more missions will be made available through future updates.

The new Airfix game aims to emulate the smartphone success of another iconic name from the Hornby Hobbies stable. Last year’s official Scalextric game app was a massive iPhone hit, topping the iPhone UK racing game charts as well as hitting the top ten arcade games listing and the top 20 overall UK iPhone app charts.

This is another success for Hornby Hobbies Ltd., the company that owns the Airfix, Corgi, Hornby and Scalextric brands, and independent licensing company Rocket Licensing. Their licensing programme for these hobby ‘superbrands’ has made enormous inroads into the market since its launch in 2009. Cakes, apparel, dress-up, t-shirts, coin-operated rides and melamine homeware are available or planned for the 4-12-year-old range, while, for grown-ups who remember the brands with affection there will also be apparel as well as also jigsaws, hip flasks, playing cards, mugs and wash bags.

Charlie Donaldson, Joint Managing Director of Rocket Licensing, says: “Sabec has done it again. Hard on the heels of last year’s incredible success with Scalextric the company has again successfully brought the thrills and spills of one of the world’s best-loved hobby brands to the smartphone app. We — and all Airfix fans — are expecting another iPhone hit and are looking forward to the arrival of the Android platform version of the Airfix game app.”
