Arte embraces Target’s acclaimed drama series East West 101

Leading rights management company Target Entertainment has secured a key new broadcast deal for its drama series East West 101 with Franco-German culture channel Arte.

Series one of the hard-hitting drama series has sold to Arte for broadcast across France and Germany with launch planned for spring 2012. There are a total of three series available for East West 101 and Target holds all international TV rights to the trilogy.

All three series of the show have also recently sold to Acht, Belgium and Kanal 2, Estonia, as well as pick ups of the third series by ABC Australia’s pan-Asian channel and Maori TV, New Zealand.

Produced by Knapman Wyld Television for SBS Australia, East West 101 (6 x 60’) explores the ramifications of the war on Iraq and Afghanistan through crimes committed in Australia.

The multi award-winning series crosses the boundaries of culture and crime, and brings audiences a complex yet riveting drama series. Set in Sydney, each slick, action-filled episode follows Zane Malik, a young detective at the Major Crime Squad, and his team in their investigations. Each standalone story is based on the experiences of a crime unit and tackles a multitude of topical issues, including illegal immigration and an impending terrorist attack.

East West 101’s popularity has brought it widespread acclaim. Since its launch the show has won and been nominated for more than 20 awards including: The Australian Institute’s Best Mini Series, Best Direction and Best Screenplay; the New York Festival’s International TV & Film’s Gold Medal for Best Mini Series, and a Logie awards for Most Outstanding Drama Series, Mini Series or Telemovie.
