On 14 April 2012 the world will be commemorating the centennial of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The international producer and distributor of top-quality TV programs ZDF Enterprises announces two major new productions devoted to this catastrophe: one a miniseries, the other a documentary; both are ideal for broadcasters looking for up-to-date programs in these two genres. "Saving the Titanic" (1 x 90' or 2 x 50') is the first-ever documentary special to focus on the heroes behind the disaster: the engineers and shipbuilders below deck who did their utmost to keep the stricken ship afloat. It's the story of the men whose efforts to keep the power systems running helped save the lives of many passengers. Produced with a budget of over 1.5 million euros, this "behind-the-scenes" story of the Titanic is based on eyewitness accounts and enhanced with re-enactments and detailed CGI of the ship and its drive technology. The program has already been sold to Viasat (eastern Europe and Scandinavia) and Servus TV (Austria); negotiations are underway with a renowned US American broadcaster. The epic miniseries "Titanic" (2 x 90' or 4 x 65') is the brainchild of Oscar® winning writer Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey, Gosford Park) and BAFTA winning producer Nigel Stafford-Clark (Bleak House). Starring Linus Roache, Geraldine Somerville, Celia Imrie, Toby Jones and other distinguished stars, the multi-million euro television event retells the doomed voyage by subtly interweaving action, mystery and romantic plotlines before bringing them all together in an explosive finale. As the story unfolds over each film, we follow events through the eyes of a host of characters from across the social spectrum, offering captivating insights into the world of 1912 and the tragic events leading up to the icy deaths of 1517 passengers. The miniseries is produced by Lookout Point and Sienna Films for ITV, and is by supported by major broadcasters around the world including ABC (US), TF 1 (France), Channel Seven (Australia), TV NZ (New Zealand), SVT (Sweden) and many other broadcasters. |
