Consumer products deals ramp up across Asia Pacific

Nickelodeon Consumer Products has signed a raft of new consumer products deals for iconic evergreen properties SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer across the Asia Pacific territories.

In Japan, SpongeBob SquarePants is to launch across apparel, mobile phone covers and accessories, and candies through new NCP deals with Jun, Gourmandies and Mac Style respectively.

In addition, NCP has collaborated with directional Japanese fashion brand Secret Base on a SpongeBob SquarePants inspired line, licensed through Grace.

Further deals in Japan on the property have been signed with Laundry for apparel including T-shirts and parkas, also licensed through Grace, and with Seconds on digital cameras that include a built-in SpongeBob SquarePants photo frame.

In the Philippines, Chibuzo International Corporation has signed to supply teen fashion accessory of the moment, soft rubber wristband Gummy watches. Inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants and by Dora the Explorer, the deals run into the autumn of 2013.

Also in the Philippines, NCP signed a deal for SpongeBob SquarePants premiums with Starkson Packaging Company, which supplies J&J and Mister Donut. The J&J deal covers a free bundled toy linked to purchases, and the Mister Donut promotion offers SpongeBob SquarePants tote bags and tumbler linked to purchases.

 

 

In Taiwan new deals have been signed for lanterns and for heated cushions in two separate deals. Licensee Fuh Guann Plastics is signed up to launch lanterns themed with SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Starfish characters, featuring 3D sculpting and using the nursery line: “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”.

Shin Dun Enterprise is launching pocketed cushions with a heating function and a USB connection for SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Starfish – consumers can use their computers at the same time as keeping their hands warm.

NCP in Thailand is also ramping up its consumer products offer with a wide variety of category deals. Among them, Great Profit Telecom is working on SpongeBob SquarePants mobile phone accessories including a mobile phone cases in a variety of designs to fit brands including iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC and Samsung Mobile. This deal offers the potential to export the accessories outside of Thailand to the Seouth East Asian markets.

 

 

SpongeBob SquarePants is also making his way onto bedding accessories in Thailand via licensee Lee Rung Charoen.

New licenses with product yet to launch include the toy category for SpongeBob SquarePants with licensee City Toys, which plans a range of product for the mass market. The range will include character water guns made specifically to be used in the Thailand’s national New Year celebration, Songkran, when people splash water on each other.

Licensed apparel business Fancy Art is signed to produce adult apparel, also themed to SpongeBob SquarePants, as the character stretches into new market sectors in the country. Fancy Art is a sister company to Giftland, the Thai licensee for gifts and stationery for the property.

Nation Egmont has signed as Thailand’s SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer booklicensee. As a subsidiary to the Nation Group broadcast, newspaper and magazine publishing, and book business, the deal potentially opens up new distribution channels for NCP in Thailand.

Additionally, Sien Hua Tai has signed a deal for SpongeBob SquarePants umbrellas and raincoats for children and children’s socks. Aera Sport is to supply Dora the Explorer character footwear for children.
