ZDF Enterprises' MIPTV line-up: A spring bouquet of romance, children's fare and facts that move and entertain

ZDF Enterprises - February 2012

ZDF Enterprises, the sales and distribution arm of German broadcaster ZDF, is bringing to MIPTV 2012 a wide array of attractive new programs designed to appeal to practically all buyers. The trade fair will be held in Cannes from 1 to 4 April. ZDF Enterprises' traditionally broad palette of female-skewing drama, imaginative children's programs and high-gloss documentaries continues to dominate the program portfolio, with superior production values remaining the order of the day for all programs.

It is only fitting that for the spring TV trade fair, "Spring Feelings" will be breaking out at the ZDF Enterprises stand, with a variety of brand-new and recent programs targeted at female audiences. Under the heading "Spring Feelings," buyers will find no fewer than three different categories of program. "Exotic Romances" stand out for their spectacular, dream-inspiring locations, whether in world-famous tourist destinations such as those of the "Dream Voyage" (51 x 90' new: New York, Savannah, Salvador da Bahia / Brasil, Bali and Cambodia) and "Cruise into Cloud Nine" (15 x 90' new: Australia and Croatia) collections, or more rugged, out-of-the way settings in Africa, such as "Africa - Journey of the Heart" (2 x 90'), "Ella's Secret" (1 x 90' / HD) and "My Heart in Africa" (1 x 90').

Continuity is golden in the "Telenovelas" domain, which also comprises daily soaps. Yet even top-rated daily soaps like "Forbidden Love" sometimes call for a bit of tweaking and adjusting to better suit our quickly changing times. Now even more glamorous than ever, "Straight to your heart" (a.k.a. "Forbidden Love") is turning a new page with the latest episodes being produced in HD, with high production value and at spectacular locations (e.g. Mallorca). With thousands of episodes, this series is already hugely successful, not only in Germany.

ZDF Enterprises' library of "Filmed Literature" continues to grow with three new installments of the Inga Lindström Collection (42 x 90'), and one each of Dora Heldt (3 x 90' / HD), Emilie Richards (9 x 90' / HD) and Rosamund Pilcher (95 x 90'). And a ZDF Enterprises line-up wouldn´t be complete without a bunch of whole new stunning Crime Programs: This MIPTV, it´s a team-spirited Scandinavian TV series based on the award-winning, bestselling novels written by Swedish writer Arne Dahl. And meet "Jack Irish, an Australian former criminal lawyer, now a debt collector, football lover, trainee cabinetmaker and part time investigator.

The new "ZDFE.factual" collection reflects the wider pool of prestigious international producers that ZDF Enterprises has been collaborating with over the past few years, including Werner Herzog, National Geographic, Discovery, NDR Naturfilm and many others. One of the most vital documentaries for all cultures is the five-part "Holy War" (5 x 50' / HD), which takes a clear and comprehensive look at the difficult history of Islamic-Christian relations. Werner Herzog's two prison projects "Death Row" (4 x 50' / HD) and "Into the Abyss" (1 x 105' / HD) have already attracted a great deal of attention, with "Death Row" having been screened in the Berlinale Specials section at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival.

Fans of the popular factual-reality series "Alaska State Troopers" (13 x 50' / HD for season 2, now 18 x 50' in total) and "Licence to Drill" (6 x 50' / HD for season 2, now 12 x 50' in total) can look forward to new seasons with more adventures in sub-Arctic temperatures. The fascinating "Ultimate Science" (12 x 50' / HD) series explores where fantasy ends and reality begins - discoveries that take us beyond the boundaries of traditional scientific research. The entertaining "Missing Link" (10 x 30') will have viewers marveling at how interrelated even the strangest things can be.

At MIPTV 2012 ZDF Enterprises will also be launching its "Nature Now!" collection of over 50 brand-new, high-budget wildlife documentaries from NDR Naturfilm, ZDF and other top producers. New programs include "World's Wildest Encounters III"(2 x 50' / HD), "Ocean Stories I-III" (3 x 50' / HD) and "Wild Iran" (1 x 50' or 2 x 50' / HD). Shot in HD by top nature filmmakers such as Andreas Kieling and with the latest cinematographic technology, these films show us wildlife at its wildest.

Topping the line-up of children's programs at MIP are two ultra-imaginative and whimsical animated productions, "Figaro Pho" (39 x 7' or 13 x 21' / HD) and "Michel" (52 x 11' / HD). While "Figaro" is an adorable, quirky little fellow who discovers in each episode that a new and alarming phobia has befallen him, "Michel" relates the adventures of a normal little boy who just happens to be a furry, four-eyed monster. Also being launched is "My Phone Genie" (26 x 22' / HD) a live-action series with a cool, wish-granting genie for the gadget-savvy kids of today (target audience: 8+). And: The first episode of "Peter Pan's new 3D adventures" (26x22' / HD) will be ready for screening at ZDF Enterprises´ booth.
