Research Company GfK Joins LIMA

LIMA UK - March 2012

Developing new research into licensed products

GfK, one of the world’s largest research companies, has become the latest high profile organisation to join LIMA, the trade association for the $180+ billion licensing industry. Joining LIMA UK are two of its group companies - GfK Retail & Technology UK (GfK RT) and GfK Chart-Track. As a member of LIMA, GfK will have access to numerous benefits including access and discounts at events such as BLE and support via publications, research and educational programmes.

GfK operates in over 100 countries and has some 11,000 employees. It produces invaluable insights into the way people live, think and shop, to help companies make decisions and position their businesses for the future.

GfK Retail and Technology (GfK RT) focuses on the consumer goods markets with data from the world's largest retail network, reporting what is selling where, and at what rate. GfK RT currently tracks over 300 different categories. A new entrant into the licensing market, it aims to offer reporting of licensed products not covered by existing market research.

GfK Chart-Track produces all the official UK industry research for the games industry. It is currently rolling out new analysis including brand, license and franchise data for entertainment software and gaming accessories. Clients can access this information via the company’s online data warehouse tool, offering them new insights into how a licence performs over a particular range of products.

Max Templeman, GfK Account Manager for Consumer Electronics at GfK RT comments, “There are some incredibly exciting developments in licensing just now, especially the high rate of growth in some technology markets, such as headphones, which allow opportunities for further growth by license holders.”

“Becoming members of LIMA will allow our group companies further scope to increase their understanding of different markets. As part of our membership of LIMA, we plan to make available some industry insight into category and product performance, so that LIMA members can start to see some hard facts on the size and growth within the different markets. We will also be able to offer members bespoke analysis tailored to suit particular requirements.”
