With Record Book Sales And New Partners Signed, Fox Consumer Products Proves The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Franchise Is No Wimp!

Fox Consumer Products EMEA today announces new licensing deals signed for US author Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series, which was recently voted by UK kid audiences in a Blue Peter Poll as the best children’s book series of the last decade, beating Harry Potter to the top spot.

The UK licensing programme is gathering pace for what promises to be a thrilling year for Diary of a Wimpy Kid. In advance of the latest film in the series releasing on August 3rd, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, and the launch of book seven, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, this November, Fox Consumer Products has secured new partners for the licensing programme based on Jeff Kinney’s classic illustrations featured in the beloved books.

Targeting the 6-12-year-old fan base, UK partners include BM Fashion for T-shirts and sweatshirts, Danilo for greeting cards and Robert Frederick for stationery. Paul Lamond Games Ltd is the UK distributor for Pressman’s puzzles and games.

UK publishing partner Puffin has sold an incredible six million copies of the series, making it the most profitable brand in children’s publishing, worth over 2.5 times more than the popular Peppa Pig and three times more than Moshi Monsters (based on value sales in 2011). Puffin sold an impressive five million books with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever, the sixth book in the series, taking the crown as the bestselling children’s book of 2011 and the fastest selling book across all adult and children’s titles.

Jeffrey Godsick, President of Fox Consumer Products comments, “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid book sales have generated an unprecedented level of awareness and love for the franchise amongst parents and children. The theatrical release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days in August and the subsequent DVD release in Q4 2012 present an additional platform to extend the Wimpy Kid narrative through appropriate licensed products that appeal to the devoted followers beyond the books and the big screen.”

Over 75 million Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are now in print in 36 territories and available in 35 languages worldwide, demonstrating that Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a global phenomenon.
