Is it Christmas already?! The same time every year, the holiday is just around the corner – and yet it comes always as a sudden surprise. Here BRANDORA provides a brief overview of interesting developments on the German licensing market.

 

Dreamlike tree ornaments made of glass

Just in time for the upcoming Christmas season, Käthe Wohlfahrt, the family-operated company with a long tradition, extend their successful product range and add new Christmas tree decorations featuring “Unser Sandmännchen und seine Freunde”. In addition to the existing collection to "Pittiplatsch, Moppi und Schnatterinchen" they will present a reissue of the classic Sandmännchen, now appearing in red and blue. And of course, “Herr Fuchs und Frau Elster” are also on board. These dreamlike tree ornaments are made of glass, hand-blown and hand-painted. Figurines hit retail shelves in May. Käthe Wohlfahrt is well-known in German-speaking territories and beyond. Especially the parent company in Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its Christmas museum and seasonal exhibition is a popular destination for tourists from Japan and the USA. Often a visit to the factory store is part of organized tours of Germany and Europe.


Neustadt’s most famous inhabitants

Is there anyone who doesn’t know him – the most famous elephant in Germany, maybe the most famous elephant on Earth? We talk about Benjamin Blümchen, of course. Many of Germany’s grown-ups have been going to sleep listening to his stories and now their children do the same. Equally famous is Bibi Blockberg, of course. Both of them come from Kiddinx Media. But what is the key to their success? Is it the talking animals, the loveable stories, the child-appropriate adventures, the magic? Maybe it is the combination of all these elements that makes the two main characters and their friends so irresistible. Since June 2012 going to sleep is real child’s play for BIG-BOBBY-CAR enthusiasts, as Niermann Standby e. K. from Arnsberg, western Germany, offers four great child lights to accompany children on their way to the realm of dreams. This year, as every year, the annual Licensing Market, Germany’s Marketplace of Licenses, takes place at the glamorous hotel “Bayerischer Hof” in Munich. On 12 November 2012 LIMA Germany once more invite licensor and licensing agencies, manufacturers and retail partners, advertisers and promoters as well as everyone involved in licensing. Last year more than 1000 market players visited this major event to discover the vast scope of licensing business in Germany. And, of course, the association again present the coveted LIMA Germany Awards as part of the annual LIMA Gala in the evening. Closing date for nominations was mid-August, followed by the member’s vote and the solemn declaration on 12 November 2012: “And the winner is ....“! Just in time for the Christmas season Paramount Home Entertainment release a sampler DVD featuring seasonal episodes of the preschool TV shows Dora the Explorer, Go Diego, Go!, Wonder Pets, Ni Hao Kai-lan and Team Umizoomi. There will also be dedicated Christmas DVDs to SpongeBob, Go Diego, Go! and Dora. And we saved the best for last – at the end of 2012 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will finally return to German TV screens (broadcast by Nickelodeon, of course)!
