HE’S BACK! Dashboard Elvis enjoys his revival

Celebrities Entertainment - August 2012

On the 35th anniversary of his death the motto still is: “My Elvis, your Elvis – Elvis for everyone!” No other name is more inspiring. He is the most successful, most democratic, and for many the most erotic solo artist of all times. To be honest, without him, pop music would not be what it is today. Because it was him who hit the 1950s like an earthquake with his unorthodox voice, his attitude, and his body language. And it was him who effortless pulled down walls of ethnic, social, and musical prejudices. Elvis the Pelvis, the notorious “white man of colour with his gyrating hips”, carelessly appropriated everything he liked: He made the slang of black blues bars acceptable, he wore pink shirts; he applied mascara and freely experimented with chemical substances. To put it in a nutshell, he was the people’s dandy, the vanguard of glam rock, and the pioneer of rock’n’roll – all at once. John Lennon called him a “one-man-revolution”, Leonard Bernstein said, he was the “greatest cultural power of the 20th century”, and US-President Jimmy Carter considered the super star to be “irreplaceable”. Reason enough to revive Dashboard Elvis, the cult king of rock’n’roll talisman! From now on he provides fans with their daily dose of optimism, carefreeness, and rhythm to help them walk smoothly through life. True to the motto: “rock it like Elvis.”

The new Jailhouse Rock Dashboard Elvis is 18 cm high and modelled on Elvis Presley and the original outfit he wore for the 1957 film of the same name. The figurine consists of two parts, connected by a springy spiral. His foot is attached to the dashboard while his head dangles on a cord, attached to a suction cup at the windshield. Each vibration awakes the figure and makes his hips gyrate. The new Dashboard Elvis hits retail throughout Germany on 16 October 2012 and will be available at a SRP of 9.95 Euros.
