Ink Snaps Up Subway Surfers

Brand Licensing Europe - October 2012

Leading brand licensing agency Ink has announced it is now acting as global agent for breakout digital gaming hit Subway Surfers.

Subway Surfers is the result of a collaboration between Danish developers SYBO Games and Kiloo Games and is a 3D platform game that sees players taking the role of young graffiti artists as they attempt to evade the attentions of a railway security guard and his dog. Gameplay involves the player dodging oncoming trains and other hazards, whilst picking up coins and useful objects. The hugely popular app is available for iPhone, iPad and iPod and has recorded 28 million downloads and 1.7 billion play sessions in just the few months since launch; its impending release on Android next month is set to boost sales even further and will introduce the app to a whole new market.

Ink will be presenting Subway Surfers to the international licensing community at BLE 2012 and will be looking to appoint a global network of sub-agents to help popularise the brand and drive downloads past the 100 million mark. Initial target sectors for a licensing programme include toys, publishing, apparel, footwear and stationery, whilst Ink is also looking to facilitate the development of a TV series based on the property.

“Subway Surfers is a fantastic brand,” says Ink CEO Morten Geschwendtner. “It combines cute graphics with incredibly addictive gameplay and has the potential to become the next big app brand to successfully transfer into the licensing sector. Given the huge amount of sales it has generated in a very short space of time the sky is the limit with this property and I’m confident that it won’t be long until Subway Surfers is as well known as Fruit Ninja or Angry Birds.”
