CPLG, licensing agent for Universal Pictures’ popular Fast & Furious film franchise, has announced a new agreement with Hornby Hobbies that will see a range of Scalextric slot cars based on vehicles from the films. The slot cars will be available internationally from May 2013. The licensing agreement was made through Universal Partnerships & Licensing.

The explosively popular film franchise continues to fuel the car culture craze. In 2011, Fast Five raced into theatres, opened No. 1 in territories around the world and took in more than $620 million at the global box office. In summer 2013, Universal Pictures will release the next instalment in the franchise built on speed, Fast & Furious 6.

The new deal brings together two hugely popular brands and will allow fans to race slot car versions of their favourite vehicles from the hit film franchise.

“The Fast & Furious films are known for their impressive range of cars and the characters’ racing skills. We are looking forward to providing fans the opportunity to take their own piece of the action home to recreate the fast paced races in their front room,” said Paul Chandler, Marketing Manager at Hornby Hobbies Ltd.

“We are very pleased to have signed this new deal with Hornby Hobbies,” said Tom Roe, Category Manager, Toys & Games, CPLG. “They’re a great company to work with, and with Scalextric as the world’s favourite slot car racing system, this represents a fantastic use of the license, and the range is sure to have huge appeal.”
