Series is set to air across the markets of Disney Channel and Disney XD

ZDF Enterprises has sold the rights (Free/Pay TV) for the youth series “Wolfblood” to Disney Channels that will see the series roll out across X markets, as part of a multi-territory deal (USA, Latin America, Italy, France, Spain, Benelux, Russia, CEE and ME). The channel has acquired the first season of the mystery-tinged youth series with an exclusive option on season two. Coproduced by CBBC, ZDF and ZDF Enterprises, a second season of the live-action mystery-adventure series for kids aged 8 to 12 is currently being filmed and will be available from fall 2013 for its international rollout. It is set to premiere on CBBC – fittingly – around Halloween of this year.

The series revolves around wolfbloods, who are neither completely wolves nor completely humans, but can shift between the two forms more or less at will. Wolfbloods also have great powers, such as super speed, strength and senses.

The heroine is wolfblood teen Maddy Smith (played by Aimee Kelly). Just as Maddy is getting ready for her first transformation, a new boy, Rhydian Morris (Bobby Lockwood), starts at her school. Maddy helps Rhydian learn to fit in while he helps Maddy master her first challenge. Rhydian also has to cope with his mother, a “wild” wolfblood who wants her son to roam free as a wolf.

The storylines reflect ordinary teenage life but with the added distinction of having the protagonists cope with being a shape-shifting wolfblood. This also means finding out whom you can trust with your secret, and how to fit into everyday life at home and school when you’re different.

Ana Izquierdo Lowry, Head of Acquisitions, The Walt Disney Company, EMEA: “We are thrilled to have secured the rights to the European-produced, live action drama for kids, Wolfblood, which is set to roll out on Disney Channel across a selection of markets within EMEA, the US, Latin America and Russia.”

Helen Bullough, Head of CBBC Productions: "We're really delighted that so many young people and family audiences across the world will be able to watch Wolfblood. Created by UK writer Debbie Moon and filmed in the North East of England, it really is a great example of how a brilliant story, well told, can appeal internationally."

Fred Burcksen, Executive VP and COO, ZDF Enterprises: "We are overjoyed that Disney is as excited about ‘Wolfblood’ as we are and that this great show has found such an outstanding broadcasting partner across multiple territories. We are happy to see ‘Wolfblood’ further roll out across the world and look forward to launching season 2, which is currently being filmed, at MIPCOM Junior this fall.”
