Kakerlakak is Germany’s Best Toy of the Year 2013

Ravensburger - Juli 2013

“Kakerlakak”, the hilarious hunt for the twelve-legged mini robot, wins the “Das Goldene Schaukelpferd 2013” award. Now in its twelfth year, Germany’s most renowned consumer award for toys is awarded by the Familie&Co. magazine and the Verband der Deutschen Spielwarenindustrie. Children, parents and experts have been testing 50 different toys and chosen the exciting cockroach chase to be “Best Toy of the Year 2013”. In addition to three nominations, the Ravensburger board game has thus won the second award within a year.

Dirk Müller, Senior Editor of Familie&Co, said: “The little cockroach, a HEXBUG® nano® mini robot, authentically imitates the motions of a real insect. Due to easy-to-learn rules and a clearly defined play area the game provides long-lasting play fun.” According to Müller, the jury was immediately inspired by the exciting mechanisms and sturdy materials.

The success story: Even before its market launch in March, the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg nominated Kakerlakak for the Toy Award 2013; later it has also been nominated for the Top 10 Spielzeug Award, another major prize for the German toy industry. In May, the Toy of the Year jury put the game on their list of recommended children’s games. In June, the Wiener Spiele Akademie presented the cockroach chase with the “Spiele-Hit für Kinder 2013” Award. Now the game won the overall “Das Goldene Schaukelpferd” Award and the award in the category “For the Whole Family”. Ravensburger considers these prizes to be a valuable seal of quality, granted by the fiercest critics of all: children and their parents.

Playing Kakerlakak, players use kitchen utensils to lure a twelve-legged mini robot HEXBUG® nano® into a trap. Roll the die to see whether you can turn a fork, knife or spoon. React fast and spin the utensils in the right moment at the right position for a 90-degree turn to guide the cockroach into your trap. Each cockroach you trap earns you a cockroach token. The first player to collect five tokens wins the game.

The racy action game with battery-driven cockroach is designed for two to four children aged 5+. It has four different starting positions and is available at specialized toy stores at a SRP of 35 Euros.

Children hunt for a crawling mini robot

Watch out, cockroach in the kitchen! In the Ravensburger children’s game “Kakerlakak” a twelve-legged mini robot HEXBUG® nano® races along a maze of kitchen utensils. Which player will be able to guide the battery-driven bug into a trap by turning knives and forks in just the right moment in just the right direction?

The kitchen in the game box: Quick as a flash the black-orange crawly scurries along the floor tiles. Kitchen staff has build a variable maze of 24 kitchen utensils to block its way. Now it’s your turn to catch the quick runner. Each player tries to guide the bug into their trap in one of the four corners of the box. That is: They spin knives, forks and spoons in the right moment at the right position for a 90-degree. To be successful, they have to closely observe the situation and react swiftly. Roll the die and see, which utensil may be turned. So the die limits the opportunities to act and catch the bug. If the coveted insect gets caught in the trap, its owner earns a cockroach token. Who owns most cockroach tokens at the end of the game wins the exciting cockroach hunt.
