Gaumont Animation - October 2013

Gaumont Animation, one of Europe’s leading producers and distributors of children’s entertainment, together with Calidra, Italy’s Studio Campedelli and Japanese partners TV Tokyo and Kodansha, announced today that its new animated CGI series Calimero (104 x 11’), was acquired by German Broadcaster Super RTL. The deal was brokered by Telepool, distributor for Germany-Austria-Switzerland.

“We are very excited about the prospect of German kids being re-introduced to Calimero. This deal confirms Gaumont Animation's longstanding relationship with Telepool and Super RTL since our SantApprentice series” said Gaumont Animation’s Managing Director Pierre Belaïsch.

RTL’s program director Carsten Goettel: “We instantly fell in love with Gaumont’s idea to make a fresh animated version of the well-known brand Calimero. Now that we saw the first episode we are even more thrilled about the quality and the beautiful look of the new CGI series. And we are more than sure that our audience, kids and parents alike, will share our enthusiasm and look forward to bringing it on air in Germany.”

Calimero (© Pagot) is a loveable little black chicken that was initially created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi and became an international hit with 290 episodes of animation aired in over 80 countries. Celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, Gaumont Animation’s all-new animated CGI series will bring this iconic character to an entire new audience of children. Gaumont Animation distributes the program and manages the brand internationally (excluding Asia) on behalf of Calidra, the right owner. Broadcasters already on board are France’s TF1, Italy’s RAI Fiction, Disney Junior, TV Tokyo, Tele Quebec and TSR in Switzerland.
