Leading animation studio Rainbow has announced that one of its most popular shows, Mia and me, is set to screen across United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland soon thanks to a new broadcasting deal with Nickelodeon UK.

The award-winning show is a co-production with Lucky Punch GmbH/M4e and is an original and innovative hybrid of live action and CGI animation that combines fantasy, adventure and comedy. The storyline chronicles the adventures of 12-year old Mia as she juggles her life in the real world with another role in the magical kingdom of Centopia, where she turns into a pretty elf who becomes the guardian of the land’s unicorns.

The show has already been a hit across the world, with more than 70 broadcasters in over 80 territories having snapped up the first series. Its popularity has already led Rainbow to produce a second series, which is due for Fall 2014 release while the feature film will premiere in 2015. The UK licensing community will also be eager to get involved with a property that is a merchandiser’s dream thanks to the collectability of the characters, which has already led to a strong programme of over 100 licensees and 600 products. A full range of licensed merchandise will launch next year in established territories and this will include an exciting toy range from global toy partner Mattel. Other prestigious partners include Ravensburger, Egmont, Unilever, Nestle and Panini.

“UK audiences are in for a treat as Mia and me is a wonderful show that mixes very high production values with funny, exciting and original scripts,” says Luana Perrero, TV Sales Manager, Rainbow Group. “This winning combination has already led to huge worldwide popularity and with such a high-profile broadcasting partner as Nickelodeon on board I’m sure this success will be replicated in the UK.”

Adds Tim Patterson, VP, Director of Programming, Nickelodeon UK: Mia and me is such a bright series, and will really complement our roster of vibrant new shows.”
