Award-winning vampires

KRIMI total - May 2014

Dresden-based games company KRIMI total garnered the coveted German RPC Fantasy Award.

Since 10 May 2014 “Die Pracht der Vampire” has been a highly acclaimed game – critically and otherwise. This award is a real highlight of KRIMI total’s tenth anniversary year.

Once a year, the exhibition centre in Cologne turns into a huge world of role playing games. During this time enthusiastic role players meet at the Role Play Convention (RPC), an innovative trade fair format centred on the fantastic genre. Together with games designers and games companies they try and test new products, discuss new and existing games, and choose the best games among hundreds of nominees.

One of the best games – and thus winning the jury award – is “KRIMI total – Die Pracht der Vampire” from Dresden-based games company KRIMI total. The jury states: “A beautiful product that once more approaches the fantastic genre and thus invites players to enter a fantastic world.

I am really happy that our game ‘Die Pracht der Vampire’ has received this year’s award,” said Jörg Meißner, managing director of KRIMI total GmbH, proudly. “After our first award in 2010 we have now won our second RPC Fantasy Award. We are extremely proud of our latest award, as it is a wonderful highlight of our tenth anniversary year. And it bears testimony to the up-to-dateness of our games.

The undead conquer the world of crime games

Die Pracht der Vampire”, the twelfth KRIMI total game, takes its guests to the night of London. For centuries vampires have been successfully hiding in the dark beauty of the night, they have been mingling with humans and been supposed to be nothing more but romantic phantasms. However, evidence increases that humans no longer deem vampires a mere fiction. The fascinating world of mystical dark creatures threatens to break apart. Little wonder that vampire Princess Minni calls all London vampires to a meeting. But before she is able to make her formal announcement, she is found dead – only a crumpled heap of ashes remains.

Now the guests go on manhunt, as one thing is for certain: Not only mortals pose a danger to vampires, but also long-standing feuds and new schemes threaten the un-life of the Children of the Night. “Players go to a party, take on the role of another character, dress up accordingly and go on manhunt – pure fun!” That’s who Jörg Meißner explains the increasing interest in their games. Up to date, more than 700,000 suspects have played the games to reveal the murderer.

The play concept relies on party games, role playing and parlour games

Create crime scenes, reconstruct locations, destroy evidence, hunt murderers – since 2004 that has been everyday life for Dresden-based games company KRIMI total GmbH. Back then computer scientist Jörg Meißner developed his first KRIMI total game “Der Duft des Mordes”. At home, he and his wife Antje came up with a brilliant party idea. To date, more than 75,000 copies of their games have been sold and more than 700,000 suspects have been inspired. True to the motto “Playing Becomes an Adventure” Meißner successfully established his GmbH on the German market. This year the company celebrate their tenth anniversary – with a coveted award and several new releases. Suspense continues.
