ZDF Enterprises takes on distribution of Prix Europa-winning series VIVA HATE

ZDF Enterprises - November 2015

ZDF Enterprises today announced the signature of an agreement with Swedish production company Anagram Films. Through this agreement, ZDF Enterprises will be responsible for the worldwide distribution, excluding Scandinavia, of the 3x60 minutes mini-series VIVA HATE, which has only recently been awarded with the coveted Prix Europa as the Best European TV fiction series or Mini-series. Only recently, it has already won two Kristallen awards in Sweden as well at the TV awards for best male actor (Peter Andersson) and best female actor (Lena Endre) and was nominated for best TV Drama.

VIVA HATE is a production of Swedish Anagram Film and TV AB, co-produced by SVT and Film iVäst, directed by Jens Lien, produced by Martin Persson and written by prolific Peter Birro.

Set in the Swedish city of Gothenburg in the early 1990s, VIVA HATE is first and foremost a love story. Daniel, an avid Morrissey admirer, starts the band Viva Hate to get recognition from the world, but mainly from his mum who only cares for his older brother Tommy. Tommy, a petty thief, is his mother’s love child as opposed to Daniel who is ”just the result of a one-night-stand”. As Daniel becomes a sort of rock star, gets entangled in his brother’s criminal life and finds his true love Fanny, the story explodes in music and action and Daniel finds out what really matters in life.

The statement of the Prix Europa Jury: ”This series opens its era to the audience with sharpness in storytelling and great production value. The audience gets to the skin of the main characters, we breathe together with them in excitement. The series brings us warm-hearted comedy with the rhythm and passion of fireworks. The magnificent script goes forward with extraordinary power and the directing adds great speed. The main character Daniel makes no compromises – it’s all or nothing in the fight for success as a punk-band in Gothenburg in the year 1991. The series starts like an earthquake – and just builds up from there.

Fred Burcksen, Executive VP and COO of ZDF Enterprises: „My sincere congratulations to the producers for winning the Prix Europa. We are very proud to be able to offer our clients this award-winning series as of immediately”.

Martin Persson, Producer, Anagram Film & TV : “I think that VIVA HATE is relevant to audiences everywhere in the world and I am very happy to have ZDF Enterprises on our side to make that happen.
