The MIPTV Focus on Germany will provide TV professionals from around the world with a unique opportunity to discover new German programming, meet top-level executives from the German TV industry, and forge new partnerships with German producers. Lead partners, ZDF Enterprises and Red Arrow International, will host special conference sessions on international production and co-production of scripted and nonscripted TV programmes. Other German media companies confirmed as partners with the Focus on Germany programme include Deutsche Welle, Global Screen and WDR mediagroup. In addition, Beta Film will host an international screening on Monday 4 April. An enlarged German Pavilion will be back on the MIPTV exhibition floor with AG Dok, ARRI Media,German Films, SOLA Media, Spiegel TV, and Your Family Entertainment already confirmed as exhibitors. Other Focus on Germany initiatives include a showcase of innovative media disruptors and a dedicated MIPTV feature magazine about the German TV industry. “ZDF Enterprises is the largest distributor of German-language programmes, a valued co-production partner of international broadcasters and producers, as well as a major investor in audiovisual content both domestic and foreign. Being a global player with a German home-base, we are honoured and delighted to take the opportunity of the Focus on Germany to present the German market's many exciting facets and assets on the international stage,” said Alexander Coridass, President and CEO, ZDF Enterprises. “It is great to be participating in MIPTV’s Focus on Germany. Red Arrow’s business now extends far beyond our original home country, with 13 production companies in six countries, including six businesses in the US. For Red Arrow as a group, our international ambitions have proved to be a source of huge creative strength. Focus on Germany is a great opportunity to celebrate our industry’s domestic and international success,” said Henrik Pabst, Managing Director of Red Arrow International. German companies have the fourth biggest presence at MIPTV and MIPCOM, and this country focus serves to underline the international reach of the German TV industry. In terms of revenue, Germany is the world’s second-biggest television market, with more than 40 million TV households. The market is showing growth across all sectors, in particular pay-TV and VOD, which grew by 7 % in 2015 to reach some € 2.6 billion. Coproduction partnerships involving German producers and broadcasters are increasing, as international demand grows for scripted and drama formats. And German institutions like the DFFF and some regional funds are attracting more international productions to produce in and with Germany. “Leading players in the German content market are ramping up their strategies to adapt to the world of media convergence and for all of them, quality of content will remain the key to success, with cooperation and cross-media projects a crucial way to enhance their reach in the multiscreen age. So we are thrilled to put the spotlight on Germany at this year’s MIPTV to underline the dynamism of that country’s TV industry,” said Laurine Garaude, Director of Reed MIDEM’s Television division. MIPDoc, the dedicated factual content trade event which is held ahead of MIPTV, will provide a foretaste of the Focus on Germany through a series of special presentations by the Documentary Campus, a non-profit organization based in Munich, which will be running six workshops during the weekend. Launched in 1998 by German media enterprises, the Documentary Campus was joined in 2003 by selected European non-fiction companies. Member companies support the initiative financially and benefit by gaining access to new ideas and projects, qualified professionals and high-quality training and advice on how to develop their film ideas. The Documentary Campus has helped develop many award-winning films, some of which have been nominated for Oscars and Emmys. Organised by Reed MIDEM, MIPTV takes place in Cannes, France, from 4-7 April 2016, and MIPDoc runs in Cannes from 2 - 3 April. |
