Leading licensing business Character World is set to launch an exclusive line of bedding and accessories featuring iconic global brand Care Bears.

Originally designed in 1981 to be used on greeting cards; Care Bears became famous as toys, and later appeared on TV and in films. The brand is experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity after Netflix commissioned ‘Care Bears and Cousins’, which premiered in 140 countries in November 2015.

Character World has produced a full Care Bears collection including duvet covers, fleece blankets, cushions and bean bags. The line will debut exclusively for a month in Toy ‘R’ Us stores in March, before being rolled out to retailers across the UK.

Tim Kilby, brand director of Character World, said: “It’s fantastic to be creating a new range for such a well-loved brand with a global fan base. The Netflix revival means the property continues to appeal to new audiences. Parents remember playing with Care Bears themselves and their children are now also developing a real attachment to the brand.

There’s been lots of excitement about the release of the new TV series and I can see Care Bears remaining a firm favourite. With the 35th anniversary of Care Bears in 2017, we’re expecting big things for this brand.

Care Bears is the top new property in traditional plush in the UK. The well-known characters inspire love and happiness and the bright and colourful new designs will be a great addition to any young child’s bedroom.

Care Bears were an extremely popular brand when first launched with over 40 million toys sold between 1983 and 1987. Character World’s new range promises to be popular with parents as many will fondly remember the characters from their childhood.

Care Bears joins Character World’s preschool license portfolio which includes Peppa Pig, Thomas & Friends, Paw Patrol and Teletubbies.

Founded in 1998, Character World works with some of the world’s leading entertainment companies. It supplies retailers across the UK including Asda, Next, Tesco and John Lewis.
