With 6.35 million viewers and a market share of 19.6 percent, the final episode of the three-parter “Ku'damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause” was the day’s most watched program on German television on Wednesday, 23rd March 2016 and helped ZDF achieve the top spot in the hearts of the audience with a overall daily market share of 14.4 percent. Over 7 million viewers watched at the peak time and yet again caused a significant increase in the market share: part 1 on Saturday evening watched by 5.57 million viewers (15.3 percent market share), part 2 followed on Monday with 5.78 million and a market share of 17.3 percent.

“Ku'damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause” also attracted a lot of attention in ZDF's online service Mediathek, where the first two episodes had already achieved over 300,000 viewings in the first 3 days, not including the mobile use of the Mediathek, usually achieves another 50 percent of the total number of video hits.

The setting for this major ZDF three-parter “Ku'damm 56” – Rebel With a Cause” is the “Galant” dance school on the Kurfürstendamm. In a time of strict conventions and rigid attitudes, owner Caterina Schöllack tries to find the best suitor to marry her daughters. Her daughter Monika, however, notably resists the path laid down for her and also discovers rock ‘n' roll.

The idea and screenplay of the three-parter come from Annette Hess and it was directed by Sven Bohse. Leading parts are played by Sonja Gerhardt, Claudia Michelsen, Maria Ehrich and Emilia Schüle, with Heino Ferch, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Trystan Pütter, Sabin Tambrea, August Wittgenstein and others in supporting roles.
