ZDF Enterprises lands a variety of hits with MIPTV programs

Drama, Factual, Junior and Entertainment: all four pillars of ZDF Enterprises‘ sales and distribution portfolio have landed some of the biggest hits at this spring’s media trade fair MIPTV in Cannes. Boosting the popularity of the programs were two special events that created a media buzz in Cannes, the “Focus on Germany” and the MIPDrama Screenings that showcased a selection of 12 new drama programs from around the world.

Fred Burcksen, Executive Vice President and COO of ZDF Enterprises: “We are honored to have the opportunity to present the German market’s many exciting facets and assets to a distinguished international audience.” Prestigious quality, distinctive realism and dramaturgical refinement are just some of the hallmarks of German dramas which provide the underpinnings of the MIPTV conference session hosted by ZDF Enterprises, Beyond the Hype. German Drama Series Going Global. In addition to giving greater exposure to the program itself, the mini-festival/contest also spotlighted the entire genre of German dramas.

Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause set the pace for ZDF Enterprises’ champions, with the three-part social-drama soon luring many broadcasters to the ZDF Enterprises stand for more information. A number of territories and broadcasters throughout Europe, Latin America and beyond are currently manifesting strong interest in the gorgeously filmed program that evokes the 1950s.

By spotlighting Germany in its national close-up, and choosing a ZDF Enterprises drama – Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause – as one of 12 new international drama series to be portrayed in the new competitive event MIPDrama Screenings, ZDF Enterprises has made a major contribution to the market in general and, more specifically, to the kudos-winning program Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause.

Also featured in Cannes were the brooding Scandinavian drama Thicker than Water II, the northern Irish murder mystery The Fall, the highly atmospheric thriller The Girl in the Marsh and the ever popular crime series What a Team.

Successful new programs

Clearly a winner was the factual documentary, Why Size Matters (2 x 50’), an experimental search for the reasons why things are as big or as little as they are. A kind of sleeper hit, it drew crowds from all over Europe, Asia and the U.S. requesting details on the production. First Flight – Conquest of the Skies (1 x 50’), is an aero-mystery that seeks to prove at last who actually first flew a motorized airplane, the Wright Brothers or the German emigré Gustave Whitehead.

It’s a win win situation: The Game Begins, Quiz Champion, Dalli Dalli – ZDF Enterprises’ 2016 spring entertainment portfolio presents amazingly compact, well-conceived show formats for every age or interest group all produced by the ZDF Enterprises’ subsidiary Riverside Entertainment. One of Germany’s most famous live-show hosts, Johannes B. Kerner, was also on hand at MIPTV to introduce various game and quiz shows. An outstanding new scientific game show featuring exciting experiments with the human senses made its MIPTV debut this spring: You can’t fool me.

ZDFE.junior would hardly be a full-blooded junior without wolves! But this season, the seriously cool Wolfblood (52 x 26’) and its companion piece Wolfblood Uncovered (10 x 12’), are competing for the teen heart, mind and howl with Scream Street (52 x 11’). As a fast-paced, stylish, comedy-horror extravaganza, this animated show based on the hit book series follows the adventures of Luke Watson – a normal teen apart from the wolfwolf gene!

A number of prestigious markets already manifested their interest in various programs at MIPTV: amongst them the delightful pre-school adventures of Coconut, the Little Dragon the perennially popular mermaids of H2O – Just Add Water and Mako Mermaids, Peter Pan – The New Adventures, Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs and Sherlock Yack – Zoo Detective.
