Dragon goes USA

The Little Blue Dragon is now conquering kids’ hearts in the US too, with ‘Dragon’ celebrating its premiere this September on ‘qubo’.

‘qubo’ is a new, innovative multi-platform children's TV network in the USA, initially being broadcast in English and Spanish in programme blocks on NBC, Telemundo and ION Media Network’s i-network for kids aged 4-8. ‘qubo’ (originally ‘Smart Place for Kids’) has been developed to offer children and parents family-oriented, high-quality, educational TV entertainment.
‘qubo’ aims to have an inspirational effect on its young viewers. The network’s content is all about imagination, ideas, opportunities and challenges – in short, everything that a child needs to master life.

With its playful, humorous and at the same time educational content, DRAGON the stop-motion animation pre-school children’s series co-produced by scopas medien AG, cité amérique and image plus, fits superbly into the ‘qubo’ network’s profile. “Given its promise of high-quality children’s entertainment, we regard it as a great success to be a part of the ‘qubo’ network’s launch,” says Jan Bonath, CEO of scopas medien AG. ’Dragon’ is thus one of the few German co-productions to have broken into the hard-fought US TV market.”

Signing up with Scholastic as publishing and merchandising partner for the series in the USA is another great success for the Little Blue Dragon. Amongst its other activities, Scholastic is the largest children’s book publisher in the world and publishes Dav Pilkey’s ‘Dragon Tales’, on which the TV series is based.

Scholastic Media kicked off a comprehensive merchandising campaign at the New York Toy Fair in October. “Scholastic’s work on signing up partners in all product categories for the US market will be done in close collaboration with scopas and will also have a positive impact on merchandising activities in Europe,” explains an enthusiastic Susanne Weisheit, Director of Sales at scopas medien AG and responsible for the European sales of merchandising rights.

52 episodes of ‘Dragon’ have already been broadcast with great ratings success in over 40 countries around the world, including ABC (Australia), Treehouse (Canada), Cartoon Network (Latin America), RAI (Italy), VRT/ketnet (Belgium), KRO/z@pp (Holland) and ZDF/KIKA (Germany).
Another 26 episodes are currently being produced at Clayart, scopas medien AG’s animation studio in Frankfurt.
