RHS and Mr Fothergill’s launch extension to popular seed ranges
Brandora Editorial Staff - May 2019Jointly developed seed collections aim to help everyone grow flowers and vegetables
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has announced a new seed launch with its preferred partner for licensed seed and seed gifting products, Mr Fothergill's Seeds Ltd.
Following the continuing success of the joint-branded vegetable and flower seed ranges that were launched in 2017, Mr Fothergill's now plans to extend the offering with the launch of a new seed collection range developed in partnership with the experts at the RHS. The aim of the new range is again to help everybody to enjoy growing flowers and vegetables from seed and to get results.
The range will be made up of six specially selected varieties presented in 16 flower and vegetable seed collection packs. The seeds range from Flowers for Containers, Flowers for Cutting, Flowers for Easy Growing and Flowers for Fragrance to a wide variety of herb and vegetable seeds that will meet the needs of most keen gardeners – and cooks.
The new range was launched in May this year and will be available for delivery into retailers throughout the UK from August. Garden shops and centres will be among the first stockists. DIY chains and supermarkets are also being targeted. The market for the range, as for all Mr Fothergill’s products, is gardeners of all ages, from the amateur to the enthusiast.
The range will be presented in-store on small ‘hot spot’ stands. The RHS name is highlighted on both the stands and the seed packets, which will include the words ‘Seed Collections by RHS experts for every gardener’ and a supporting quote from Matthew Pottage, RHS Garden Wisley Curator.
The range was developed after careful consultation with the RHS. Suitable flower and vegetable collection ‘themes’ employing six carefully selected varieties were created by Mr Fothergill’s horticultural experts. Then an RHS team chose a shortlist of collections and suggested further varieties that would both reflect the horticultural focus of the RHS and address traditional and modern gardening trends.
In 1978, Mr Fothergill's began selling seed to garden shops and centres. Today, the company is one of the most respected in the UK market. Its aim is to provide a product range for all gardening needs, from flower and vegetable seed to young plants, potatoes, onions, garlic, shallots, vegetable plants, soft fruit and fruit trees.
David Carey, Mr Fothergill’s Joint Managing Director, says: “The success of our first collaboration with the RHS has inspired an extension to that range that we are sure will appeal to all ages and all abilities. We are delighted to again have the chance to combine the work of Mr Fothergill’s horticultural experts with over 200 years of definitive RHS knowledge and insight.”
Cathy Snow, RHS Licensing Manager, says: “Our first collaboration with Mr Fothergill’s resulted in a popular and very successful vegetable and flower seed offering. The latest extension to that offering is, we feel, a worthy addition that will delight gardeners everywhere.”
