From the E-vehicle to the Solar Wiggle Man

fischertechnik - January 2021

Using 14 illustrative models, the fischertechnik Green Energy construction kit explains the principles of wind power and solar energy. The models are suitable for children aged 9 and over and will be available from specialist retailers from March for 109.90 euros.

The fischertechnik Green Energy construction kit illustrates how regenerative energies such as wind power work.
With fischertechnik inquisitive young designers not only look to the future, but also to new worlds: With the total of 343 components, for example, an eco-house is created. A wind turbine produces energy that can be used to generate electricity with the solar motor as a generator. On the roof of the house, solar modules provide additional energy, which is stored via the Goldcap, a capacitor. In the absence of sunlight, the wind turbine provides energy, which can be used to power an LED that simulates the light in the house.

Beyond this model, there are other small models powered by renewable energy. For example, a gang saw, which is still used in modern sawmills. Under the tap, the wheel begins to turn and perform its function. In the water turbine model, the solar motor serves as a generator and produces electricity that lights up an LED.

With a hair dryer simulating wind, you make the paper windmill turn, which in turn drives a millstone. If the solar motor is used as a generator, the homemade wind turbine uses wind to drive a propeller until it lights up an LED. The wind turbine with large propeller blades can also make an LED light up if the construction is right.

A solar panel generates electricity in the solar models, which is used to power the motor. A funny wiggle man is brought to life by solar energy, the solar helicopter turns its rotor blades and a fan provides fresh air. Depending on whether the solar modules are connected in series or in parallel, whether the sun is shining or it is cloudy, the solar motor in the models such as a turntable moves faster or slower. A barrier can also be moved up or down by means of solar operation - similar to the original - with the appropriate circuitry.

With momentum into electromobility you go with the solar-powered vehicles. Equipped with a solar module, the vehicle is set in motion. If the energy is stored in the Goldcap, it can be released in a controlled manner - the vehicle moves smoothly and drives even when the sun is not shining.

Green Energy can be combined with the H2 Fuel Cell Car construction kit from fischertechnik. This construction kit offers an introduction to the future topics of fuel cells and hydrogen: it can be used to power a vehicle.

„Renewable energies are important for our future. With this construction kit, we offer the opportunity to learn about and use them in a playful way in the children's room“, erklärt Wilhelm Schoch, Managing Director of fischertechnik. The company has therefore already been offering construction kits in the field of renewable energies for several years.
