Political Simulation Game "Genius – In the Centre of Power" awarded Giga-Maus 2007 Software Prize
ZDF provides eminent news program brands

ZDF Enterprises - October 2007

On the very day that the Frankfurter Book Fair opens the political simulation computer game "Genius – In the Centre of Power" was awarded the software prize GIGA-Maus 2007 for Best Learning Game from the German magazine "Parents and Family". The GIGA-Maus is a respected seal of approval for family software and online facilities which deserve special recommendation. This year it is awarded for the tenth time, providing a reliable reference aid for children, young people and the whole family. The jury explains its choice as follows: "This progressive simulation requires a considerable degree of political awareness. The player begins his political career in the year 2015 as a candidate for the position of mayor, and he is first called upon to establish a trustworthy reputation among voters. At the beginning of the game the player can choose four different, established party affiliations for his persona. The player has professional advisers to help him but has to cope with attacks from experienced political opponents. And in the end he can even become a presidential candidate!"

The learning adventure and complex progressive simulation "Genius – In the Centre of Power" has been developed as a joint venture between Berlin textbook publisher Cornelsen and the German Federal Agency for Civic Education, with the support of ZDF, which has made eminent news program brands such as "heute" and "Politbarometer" available. The multimedia game is on sale from Monday 15th October and can be purchased from ZDF shops.

Dr. Alexander Coridass, President and CEO of ZDF Enterprises: "We are delighted that our high-quality and attractive ZDF program brands have contributed to the success of this important game: the award of this respected prize indicates that it is outstanding in its field. In association with the publisher, Cornelsen, and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, we have been able to make accessible to a young audience the complex arena of politics, the essentials of democracy and the process of political decision-making – and in such an appealing manner".
