As reported by the Federal Statistical Office on the basis of provisional results, the number of live births in the first half of 2007 (313,100 children) showed a slight decrease by 0.3% from the first half of 2006 (313,900 children). Of the total number of births, 161,100 were boys and 152,000 girls.
