CTM Concept - February 2008

CTM Concept TV & Merchandising is new exclusive agency and responsible for licensing and merchandising of Cartoon Network

With immediate effect, Munich-based media company CTM Concept TV & Merchandising GmbH, subsidiary of the Tele Munich Group, is appointed to market the licenses of the successful international animation Channel Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network, part of the Turner Broadcasting System Media Group, today announced that CTM is their new exclusive agency of Cartoon Network for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition to Cartoon Network’s classic licensed properties, CTM will also license and merchandise the comedy format “adult swim”, another Turner TV brand, currently airing in the Sat 1. comedy slot and as VOD by maxdome.

Cartoon Network is one of the leading children’s channels on global TV markets. The channel offers and constantly grows a diversified programme portfolio of animated series, mostly original Cartoon Network productions, including the up-to-date action series “Ben 10”, hits like “Powerpuff Girls” and award-winning animation formats like “Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends” and “Camp Lazlo”, that take top ranks among the children’s most favourite TV shows. Extensive merchandising programmes in international market support most Cartoon Network shows that air in the UK, the US and in more than countries worldwide.

In Germany, Cartoon Network is broadcast as 24h-channel on digital TV via cable (Unitymedia, Kabel Deutschland, Kabel BW, Kabelkiosk, Cablecom) and satellite (Premiere Star, arena). Additionally, the programme is made available via IPTV (T-Home and Alice), mobile phone (Vodafone) and many different VOD platforms (including maxdome). On free TV, Cartoon Neworks had its first broadcast on kabel eins in a special Saturday slot between 5:30 and 11:30 a.m. in September 2005. Since then, the Cartoon Network slot has always achieved highest rating figures within its main target demographic.

Hannes Heyelmann, CEO of the Turner entertainment division in Germany: „We fully expect CTM to develop creative merchandising ideas and exciting new strategies. The realization of their plans will allow children to experience our popular cartoon brands in real life – not only on TV.”

Alan Fenwick, Vice President, Cartoon Network Enterprises, London: “Cartoon Network is one of the most popular children’s brands worldwide. We are thrilled that we have been able to sign CTM as our new exclusive agency for German speaking countries.”

Peter Kleinschmidt, CEO CTM, is also looking forward to the future cooperation: “The marketing of such a popular entertainment band as Cartoon Network has to be seen in a long-term perspective. Within the next years, we will enter into strategic partnerships to build and grow the brand and licensed properties in the German markets. I am convinced of the brands’ potential and look forward to our successful partnership with Cartoon Network”
