thewb.com announces new application on facebook® platform

Warner Bros. - May 2008

The Warner Bros. Television Group’s (WBTVG) TheWB.com has launched a new application on Facebook Platform – a platform that enables companies and developers to build applications for the Facebook website – that will allow seamless integration of Facebook’s social utility on TheWB.com, and TheWB.com’s content on Facebook. This is TheWB.com’s first Facebook Platform application, and it will help enable two-way communication and engagement of users on both the Facebook website and TheWB.com.

The application will permit users of TheWB.com to login and access their Facebook accounts while on TheWB.com, reflecting a philosophy which stresses user freedom to control their online experiences as well as giving users complete control to access and share content where, when, and how they choose.

Facebook’s more than 70 million users will also have the ability to move, mix-up and share the content on TheWB.com from within their own Facebook environment, which is in keeping with WBTVG’s goal of delivering programming to viewers wherever they may be. Facebook users will be able to add TheWB.com-created application and feature video, photos and more on their profile page; watch full-length episodes or clips from their favorite series, as well as new original series created exclusively for the TheWB.com; and discuss favorite moments, story lines or characters with their network of friends within Facebook.

TheWB.com is a premium, ad-supported, video-on-demand, interactive and personalized network. The site will feature original programming created or acquired specifically for TheWB.com and the re-release of a collection of Warner Bros. Television’s and The WB Network’s most successful series. The site’s programming will be aimed at the Adults 16–34 demographic highly coveted by advertisers, with an emphasis on women. It will have a private Beta launch in early May, with select fans able to start using the site as it continues to evolve.

The new site will capitalize on the intense association fans have with their favorite series and, through the use of new technology and the application built on Facebook Platform, will invigorate the experience of watching those series. Viewers will be able to communicate about these programs in a very personal way through a state-of-the-art community and social networking environment. The “water cooler talk” so common with these series and the demographic will now happen online in real time.

Key features of TheWB.com will be accessible through Facebook to residents of the U.S. (Note: the site is geo-filtered.)

Facebook is a social utility that offers an efficient way for people to stay connected with their friends and the people around them. Facebook users communicate and share information through the social graph, the network of connections and relationships between people. With more than 70 million active users, Facebook is the fifth-most-trafficked website in the United States.

In May 2007, Facebook launched Facebook Platform, a development platform that enables companies and engineers to integrate with Facebook and gain access to millions of users. More than 50 percent of Facebook users return to the site each day, providing unparalleled distribution potential for applications and the opportunity to build a business that is highly relevant to people’s lives.
