KOSMOS and the Youth Environment Days in Germany focus on Hydropower

KOSMOS - September 2008

Experiments with Hydro Power

The Youth Environment Days from 2 – 5 October 2008 invite teenagers and young people to research into inconvenient truths and infinite possibilities. This year’s event focuses on the topic “water”. Over the weekend teenagers and young people aged 16+ will be introduced to water as a limited resource. What is more, they will also enter into the issue of sustainable use of water as an energy source and energy store. For more information please visit the Youth Environment Days website: www.jugendumwelttage.de.

Those younger than 16 but also interested in the topic “hydropower” will definitely look forward to the new experimental kit of the same name. KOSMOS will release their new kit in October and children aged 8+ may learn how to produce environmentally friendly energy. In addition they can go into other interesting questions: How does a water wheel work? What are wave power farms and tidal power plants?

All experiments are carefully thought out and playfully introduce children to a challenging physical topic. Children may also retrace the history of hydropower usage and try various test and experiments: Even 6000 years ago, machines driven by water moved a large wheel to irrigate higher elevations. In short: The experimental kit for app. euros 29.99 includes a generator, a water wheel and a pump amongst other. “Wasserenergie” by KOSMOS provides basic skills and certainly makes you want for more.
