SUPER RTL acquires TV-Loonland´s comedy series LEON

TV-Loonland - March 2009

TV-Loonland is proud to announce that Germany´s No. 1 kids broadcaster, SUPER RTL, has acquired the Free TV rights for the CGI animated comedy series LEON (52x3 Minutes). The prestigious broadcaster is set to air LEON exclusively in Germany in late 2009.

The series is a co-production between TV-Loonland, Studio Hari - the producers of international hit series THE OWL - and French broadcaster France 3. Appealing to viewers of all ages, LEON is an hysterically-funny portrayal of one of life’s unluckiest lions. A not so King of the Jungle character wandering the stunning savannah, combined with animated slapstick genius and brilliant comic timing marks LEON as a stand out within family programming.

LEON has a true hunter instinct and plots tirelessly to track everything that moves! Each episode brings a new encounter – be it with a dippy springbok, hysterical hyenas or even a love struck hippo…But in LEON’s world the prey becomes predator and the chase always spirals out of control. After a series of madcap mishaps, the poor lion often goes hungry.

Carsten Goettel, Head of Programming at Super RTL: “Leon fits perfectly into our programming portfolio because it's totally gender neutral, suitable for all age groups, highly valued and appreciated by parents. I am therefore really looking forward to the show being on air!”

Justine Bannister, Head of Distribution and Acquisition, at TV-Loonland added: “Following strong pre-sales for the show, we are thrilled to welcome another premium broadcast partner to the table. Striking a deal with Super RTL, the uncontested market leader in Germany´s children´s TV market, speaks for the programme itself. This deal marks another important step to expand the worldwide presence of LEON.”

SUPER RTL is joining UK´s CBBC and France 3 as third prominent European broadcaster to pick up the show scheduled for full delivery before Christmas 2009.
