Kindle Entertainment, the independent production company, today announces the radio premiere of its popular pre-school show, Big and Small, on CBeebies Radio (21x10’) from September 2009. CBeebies radio, aimed at the under 6 audience, broadcasts daily between 5:00am - 8:00am and is part of the dedicated children’s schedule on digital radio station BBC7. Since its on-air TV premiere in October 2008, Big and Small has proved a big hit with kids and parents across the UK and is currently airing daily on BBC2 at 8:30am and CBeebies at 3:40pm. Featuring the voices of Lenny Henry as Big and Small, and Imelda Staunton as Ruby and Twiba, their friends, the series features great stories, laugh-out-loud moments and highly memorable songs which will appeal to both children and their parents. The Big and Small radio adaptation on BBC7 will follow the same successful format with each episode featuring a catchy song and will also feature the introduction of Jim Carter as the narrator (Shakespeare in Love, The Little Vampire, The Golden Compass). The show aims to open children’s minds to a variety of outlooks on the world and encourage them to appreciate that people have many different ideas and opinions. Each story revolves around the comedy of Big and Small’s contrasting approaches to life, they couldn’t be more different from each other but together they create an explosion of laughs as well as some genuinely touching moments of friendship and understanding. Other significant progressions for Big & Small include an immersive 3D website (www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/bigandsmall) launched in December 2008. Developed using award-winning Papervision3D technology, the site invites children to enter the house and engage with animated versions of Big and Small. A strong licensing programme continues to roll out throughout 2009 with HarperCollins having secured the worldwide publishing rights, ITV DVD having released the first Big & Small DVD for Easter and Jumbo confirmed as the major toy licensee. Further licensees include CYP for music downloads and CBeebies magazine. Anne Brogan, Founder and Director of Kindle Entertainment, comments; Big and Small has found a great home in CBeebies and following the successful TV series, the radio show is a natural extension for these immensely loveable and popular children’s characters. CBeebies Radio provides the perfect platform to broadcast this high quality pre-school show and with Jim Carter injecting his own warmth and humour to a truly funny and clever show we are confident it will be loved by Big and Small people alike. |
