  • Samsung has teamed up with VBSI for a new campaign called Samsung Digging the Beat to launch its new range of Beat Edition music mobile phones. Running across Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Hungary, MTV will open the campaign with brand spots and from August, competition creative, giving entrants the chance to win a VIP trip to an MTV festival in Amsterdam. The second phase will showcase two Samsung Digging the Beat vignettes featuring up-and-coming talent: DJ Toddla T and singer/producer MPHO talking about their inspiration, live gigs and finding that perfect beat. The activity will also be supported by a dedicated microsite, www.mtv-diggingthebeat.com where users can find exclusive content, enter the competition and also access a game challenging them to show off their DJ skills and match the beats-per-minute to get the crowd bouncing. The highest 20 scores will receive Samsung M7600 Beat DJ mobile phones.

    Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) has agreed to extend a multi-territory deal with German-based Topstar which will see the company continue to produce its hugely successful SpongeBob SquarePants branded swivel chair. The height adjustable chair has a moulded seat, steel base and uses Scotchguard stain resistant fabrics. Aimed at SpongeBob SquarePants fans aged 5-13 years old, the product is available at all good furniture shops, cash & carry outlets, office furniture dealers and by mail order throughout Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

    Dora the Explorer has been given the Royal seal of approval in Holland. Princesses Amalia (6yrs), Alexia (4yrs) and Ariane (2yrs), are big fans of the Latina adventurer and have been filmed by national news broadcaster, RTL, taking a branded ball to the beach and carrying Dora the Explorer rucksacks to school.

    Nickelodeon UK has two leading properties in the finalist categories for the Licensing Awards 2009. Dora the Explorer has been nominated for the Best Pre-School Licensed Property and SpongeBob SquarePants for Best Schoolers/Tween or Teen Licensed Property. The finalists of the Licensed Property Award Categories were selected by licensees and retailers who were asked to submit properties that had excelled over the last year. The Licensing Awards, www.thelicensingawards.co.uk, are organised by The Licensing Source Book which is owned by Max Publishing.

  • MTV Networks International has extended its Comedy Central programming presence in Europe and closed multiple deals around the world for its MTV brand:
    • Ratings winner, The Sarah Silverman Show, is set to launch on Belgium’s Acht Channel later this year. TV2 in Denmark has picked up the brand’s Comedy Central Roast series for the first time and a deal extension with SIC will see cult spoof news programme, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, broadcast for a further year in Portugal.
    • Season seven of both MTV’s Made and Room Raiders, has been licensed by SBS Belgium with Denmark’s TV2 taking Viva La Bam. Reality genre Queen, Paris Hilton, will appear on Malaysian television through a deal with the country’s TV8 which is set to air Paris Hilton My BFF. Seasons 4-5 of Pimp My Ride have been picked up by Mexico’s Canale Once, and Chilevision (Chile) will broadcast newest hit MTV show, Nitro Circus, along with Room 401, for the first time later this year.
