New Game by Piatnik: Callisto

Piatnik - September 2009

Tile placing is addictive

The latest game from Piatnik surprises fans with the shortest rules book ever published on Earth. It takes only five lines to explain "Callisto“, but play fun is unlimited.

Play for tacticians

"Callisto – The Game" - that's what Piatnik confidently call their brand new game. And – in fact – the simple but extremely fascinating tiles placing game has everything essential for a classic game. Two to four players try to place differently shaped and coloured tiles on the board. Space is limited, so they have to hinder the others doing likewise. All tiles have to touch the sides of earlier placed tiles. Of course, players will soon get in each others way – and will need all their tactical skills.

The number of players decides on how much space is placed under the transparent board. The special twist with Callisto: Each player has three pillars. Two are placed at the beginning of the game, the third is saved for later – to turn an almost lost game or to prevent your opponent from winning.

Successful game by Knizia

"Callisto" has been created by one of the most successful game designers worldwide. Within the last few years Reiner Knizia has won not less than four Austrian games awards. For Piatnik he developed successful games like "Dragon Parade", "Kampf der Magier" (The Magician’s Battle) and "Regenbogenland" (Rainbow Country). In his games the academic mathematician relies on logic skills and foresighted thinking; sophisticated and well-designed play mechanisms are his special trademark.

“Callisto provides players with what they are looking for: a highly addictive game without entry barriers,” says Mag. Dieter Strehl, director of Piatnik. What looks so simple on the gaming table is the result of due consideration. “We gave us about two years”, said Strehl, “to develop and launch such an overall perfect product.”
