KOSMOS is two steps ahead of automobile industry

KOSMOS - September 2009

On 10 September leading motor companies like Linde, Daimler, Shell, Total and many more announced a new initiative to extend the network of hydrogen stations and launch electric vehicles with fuel-cell power plants. This step comes nine years after Stuttgart-based KOSMOS Company celebrated first successes with the series production of their innovative fuel cell vehicles. Now, in October 2009, KOSMOS launch a revised version of their fuel cells – only that they do not need any hydrogen station at all.

On 10 September leading industrial companies like Linde, Daimler, EnBW, OMV, Shell, Total, Vattenfall announced their “H2 Mobility” initiative in cooperation with the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW). They agreed to build up a nationwide infrastructure of hydrogen fuelling stations and to pursue the development and commercialization of electric vehicles with fuel cells. From 2015 onwards they anticipate to sell several hundred thousand units worldwide. Admittedly, KOSMOS will never reach equally high selling figures with their fuel cell car, but their car is independent from hydrogen stations – it simply refuels at the water tap. Their secret: Due to an inbuilt solar cell the reversible fuel cell by KOSMOS is able to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Just like the large equivalents, the fuel cell then generates power from hydrogen to drive.

Now KOSMOS launches a totally revised model tailor-made for adult amateur engineers. With “Brennstoffzelle Classic” they will be able to build a technically sophisticated vehicle in ambitious design – to see it drive or to have a new eye-catcher for their desk. A decorative conveyor belt panel prevents the model from falling down the tabletop.

The experimental kit contains all parts necessary, and a solar cell, a measuring instrument as well as numerous small parts. On 64 pages the manual explains all experiments and provides valuable background knowledge. From October 2009 “Brennstoffzelle Funktionsmodell” is available throughout Germany at an RRP of Euros 189.
