4Kids Entertainment International Limited has been named licensing agent in the UK, France and Belgium for Chicaloca, a Korean-based women’s fashion brand that has quickly emerged as a hot property in territories since its launch four years ago.

Launched by Project 109 in South Korea in 2005 and in other territories the following year, Chicaloca was given the Korean Character Award by the country’s Culture and Tourism Ministry in 2006 and 2008. This aspirational brand is popular with both teenagers and young adults and represents an independent, sexy and chic attitude that embodies the mindset and lifestyle of the modern urban woman. The brand features cool and sexy graphics, along with an extensive style guide and over 40 licensees in the 15 territories where Chicaloca is already established.

The brand’s stylish images are a great match for licensees in many categories. Existing licensees include apparel, stationery, swimwear, watches, mobile accessories and bedding. Chicaloca has also appeared on a range of i-mini laptops in China that sold out within three days of launch. Additionally, Chicaloca images have been used by Samsung as the face of an advertising campaign for the Kenox camera.

“We are very excited about working with 4Kids on developing this fashion brand and extending Chicaloca’s presence in Europe,” stated Dea-hyun Jo, CEO of Project 109 Inc.

“With its urban chic imagery and distinct look, we feel Chicaloca will also resonate with stylish modern young women in the UK, France and Belgium,” said Sandra Vauthier-Cellier, Managing Director of 4Kids Entertainment International. “We look forward to introducing this unique brand to new audiences and securing licensees across a range of sectors.”
