ZDF Enterprises - November 2009

Remarkable eco-doc is only film invited to the COP15 conference in Copenhagen from December 7th to 18th, 2009 by the United Nations Environment Programme

ZDF Enterprises will be handling the worldwide distribution all rights of the spectacular ecological documentary "The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning" in all media.

"The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning" is a one-hour HD documentary that goes to the source of the climate change crisis: Antarctica. Following in the footsteps of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth", it explores first-hand the environmental challenges facing that frozen continent and, by extension, the world.

The International Polar Years 2007-2009 represented an incredible opportunity for the world to work together. This film meets these brave scientists working at Vernadsky Station and with the British Antarctic Survey as they concentrate their efforts living in often harsh and life-threatening conditions in their heroic attempt to save the world. The documentary also provides support interviews from polar experts and research scientists around the world as well as rare footage of wildlife including penguins in their hatching season. The film reports on the new phenomenon of suicide among penguins, the imminent rise of the world's sea level due to ice melting and show amazing footage of new vegetation growing in the world's largest desert.

These new discoveries were considered so valuable that this film became the only one invited by the United Nations Environment Programme to screen to world leaders during the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen from December 7th to 18th, 2009.

"The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning" provides audiences with a rare glimpse of the Earth's most undiscovered continent through the eyes of award-winning cinematographer, Damir Chytil, CSC, one of the world's foremost polar cameramen and a pioneer of HD film photography.

"The Antarctica Challenge: A Global Warning" has already won three international environmental film awards: The Silver Sierra Award (Yosemite International Film Festival, USA), Best Environmental & Ecology Film (International Film Festival Ireland) and Best Climate Change Film (New Delhi Environmental & Wildlife Film Festival, India).

Christian Massmann, Head of Sales at ZDF Enterprises, says: "It is a particular honor to be in charge of the worldwide distribution of this very particular documentary. We are confident that our worldwide connections will allow us to promote the program in the best possible way and to thus assist in spreading the environmental message to as many people as possible".

"I am delighted to have this important film represented by ZDF Enterprises," said Mark Terry, the film's producer, director and wroter. "Since it is the only film reporting on the new climate change discoveries made by the world's scientific community stationed in Antarctica during International Polar Year, it is crucial that this film and its message reach as many people as possible. The United Nations is taking it to our world leaders and ZDF will be taking it to the rest of the world."
