BRANDORA Editorial Staff - February 2010

Viva ELVIS™ by Cirque du Soleil®, a harmonious fusion of dance, acrobatics and live music, is a tribute to the life and music of Elvis Presley that will open on 19th February 2010 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Preview shows of the $100 million spectacular have already begun.

  • The cast has 240 costumes for the production, adding up to 53,000 Swarovski crystal rhinestones, 8,000 printed feathers, 300 pairs of shoes and 130 wigs!
  • There are 28 acrobats who hail from eight countries and include gymnasts, circus performers and street entertainers
  • The "Jailhouse Rock" set weighs 90,000 pounds and measures 40 feet high and 66 feet long
  • The American flag is made from boxer shorts and has only 48 stars because Elvis entered military service in 1958 - a year before Alaska and Hawaii were admitted to the Union.
  • Musical director and arranger Erich van Tourneau extracted more than 17,765 examples of Elvis Presley's singing and speaking voice from 914 albums, 33 full-length films and dozens of old home movies, documentaries and audio recordings
  • Every member of the cast has visited Graceland and they are required to answer weekly written tests about their knowledge of the King of Rock 'n' Roll up until the premiere.
