MTV Networks International (MTVNI), owned by Viacom Inc (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), has signed agreements with multiple international broadcast partners across Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America, to air its number one rated CG animated comedy series on Nickelodeon, The Penguins of Madagascar, from Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA). The news was announced today at MIP-TV by Steve Grieder, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon & Programme Sales, MTVNI.

Recently launched for international syndication, The Penguins of Madagascar is based upon the beloved penguins from DreamWorks Animation's hit feature films, Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which together grossed over $1.1 bn at the worldwide box office. More than 40 programme sales deals have been closed in all major markets including China (SMG Best TV), Brasil (Globosat), France (TF1), Italy (Mediaset), Hong Kong (TVB), Mexico (Televisa), Middle East (E-Vizion), New Zealand (TVNZ), Portugal (SIC), Russia (TNT), Spain (TV3 Catalunya) and the UK (GMTV).

The Penguins of Madagascar is the result of a fruitful and long-term partnership between Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation, two of the world’s most prolific producers of high quality television and feature film animation,” commented Grieder. “As the most-watched premiere ever in Nickelodeon history, we knew immediately that we had a hit show on our hands and I’m really thrilled to be extending the magic, through our international broadcast partners, to kids and animation lovers everywhere around the world.”

Produced by Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley (Disney’s Kim Possible and Hercules, Sky High) at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, California, the characters from Madagascar have been brought to life as the series features the all-new adventures of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, four penguins who rule the roost at their Central Park Zoo home. Throughout the season, new animals will be introduced as well as old friends from the Madagascar theatrical films.
