Kazachok Licensing Forum 2010 - Visitor Attendance Increases By 30%

Kazachok - April 2010

Over 1,000 visitors from the European licensing industry, 30% up on 2009,
attended the 7th Kazachok Licensing Forum, which was held at La Halle Freyssinet in central Paris, 8th-9th April 2010.

Nathalie Chouraqui, Director of Kazachok commented: "The Forum was a real success across the board in terms of visitor numbers, conference attendance and meeting on stands and networking. The extended two-day format allowed visitors and exhibitors time to do business, discuss and consider opportunities with high quality industry contacts in a relaxed and open atmosphere. Plans for the 2011 Forum are already underway - key objectives including the continued development of the show's international profile, visitor and exhibitor base."

The two-day format of the show and a new venue helped secure the interest of over 40% more exhibitors than 2009. Licensors such as Nelvana Enterprises, were able to capitalize on the high calibre of visitor as well as the international mix of attendees that the show pulled in.

"The 2010 Kazachok Forum has been a real success for Nelvana, from all points of view: the location, the organisation, the visitors coming from all of Europe and the retail that was largely present," commented Antoine Erligmann, VP Licensing Europe, Nelvana Enterprises. "The Kazachok Forum has again made a step ahead: it has become a real must-attend European event in the licensing business."

The Forum's timing and developing credentials as a European event was also highlighted by Laurent Taieb, VP, NICKELODEON & VIACOM CP South, who commented: "Once more, the Kazachok Licensing Forum has given the opportunity to the French and the international NVCP teams to meet local and European partners before the other international exhibitions."

Highlights of the show included the launch of a number of licensing programmes for forthcoming 3D TV series including Babar from TF1 Licences, which will be broadcast on TF1 at the end of 2010 and Lulu Zipadoo which will premier this Autumn on France 5 with rights handled by FTD. Bubbles Incorporated also profiled opportunities for their new Charlie Chaplin: 3D series due for broadcast in 2011.

Classic Media promoted its vibrant new preschool animation, Tinga Tinga Tales, based on African folk tales and M6 Licences focused on their High 5 Tony Parker TV series, which will air in September 2011. Toei Animation celebrated the relaunch of their globally successful retro girls property, Sailor Moon, while Moonscoop highlighted licensing opportunities for their boys TV property, Hero 108.

Other brands who had a high profile presence at the show, confirming their success in the European market included Gormiti with Season 2 and new product launching Q4 (Marathon), Maya the Bee (Planeta Jr) signing Lansay as the master toy, Mr Men and Little Miss (FTD), the Tootuff movie release in April 2011, Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th anniversary in 2011 and global franchise WWE, both represented at the Forum by CPLG.

With plenty of areas to network and survey the brands on offer, Kazachok's trend trackers identified three main trends from the show. Although TV is the driving force for many brands, a growing number of non TV properties were present at the show such as first time and exclusive Forum exhibitor Chupa Chups as well as Chicaloca, Weenicons, Anne Stokes Collection, Haynes, Tarzan, Fido dido, For Dummies, Rebecca Bonbon, WWF, Elle, Eric Carle etc.

The growing presence of gaming brands such as Dofus, Wakfu (Ankama), Simply-land, Billyweb, The Raving Rabbids (CPLG), Galactik Football game (Alphanim-Gaumont) was also visible at the 2010 show, as was a number of jungle themed properties from the Jungle book and World of Oo to Tinga Tinga Tales, Tarzan and Koh-Lanta.

The Forum's conference programme was also well attended - the online and social media seminars drawing the biggest audiences. The 25 pitches hosted by leading licensors exhibiting at the Forum again provided visitors with an invaluable snapshot of forthcoming brand activity and licensing opportunities.

The 8th Kazachok Licensing Forum will take place at La Halle Freyssinet in central Paris, 31st March - 1st April, 2011.
