Eight nominations for ZDF Enterprises productions at 50th edition of Monte-Carlo Television Festival

ZDF Enterprises - May 2010

The Danish crime series "The Killing 2" and the German police series "Leipzig Homicide" have both been nominated for no fewer than four awards each at this year's Monte-Carlo Television Festival, which will be held in Monaco from 6 to 10 June.

In the category Best Drama Series, "The Killing 2" is competing for Outstanding Actress – Drama TV Series (Sofie Gråbøl), Outstanding Actor – Drama TV Series (Nicolas Bro), Outstanding European Producer (Piv Bernth) and Outstanding International Producer (Piv Bernth).

Coproduced by DR TV and ZDF Enterprises, "The Killing 2" is shaping up to be an even bigger hit than its first season, which was nominated for an International Emmy and pulled in shares of nearly 80% on DR TV's premiere broadcast. The dark, urban, atmospheric police series features Sofie Gråbøl as an independent-minded police investigator who is not afraid of unmasking corruption at the highest levels of government and society, even when her own life is jeopardized.

Also competing in the same category is the police procedural "Leipzig Homicide," which has been nominated for Outstanding Actors – Drama TV Series (Andreas Schmidt-Schaller, Marco Girnth, Pablo Sprungala), Outstanding Actress – Drama TV Series (Melanie Marschke), Outstanding European Producers (Norbert Sauer, Jörg Winger) and Outstanding International Producers (Norbert Sauer, Jörg Winger).

The popular crime series "Leipzig Homicide" focuses on psychologically gripping cases that frequently involve the investigators over and beyond the call of duty. The series also reflects the increasing importance of coproducing with European and international partners, with showcase episodes filmed in Great Britain, Namibia, Turkey, Russia and the Caribbean.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival is one of the most prestigious festivals dedicated to the TV industry. Next to series such as "CSI" and "Desperate Housewives", the festival has also honored the ZDF Enterprises/DR TV production "The Eagle" in the recent past. Prince Albert II of Monaco has been the Honorary President of the Festival since 1988.
