Macy’s Set to Launch an Exclusive Line of GLEE Fashion Apparel for Back-to-School
From a sold-out nationwide tour, to the covers of major magazines, GLEE, the #1 new TV series of the season, will soon be dancing into store aisles worldwide – satisfying ‘Gleeks’ everywhere. Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products today unveiled plans for its merchandising launch for the wildly-popular television phenomenon. Tapping into the key attributes of the most talked-about new show of the year - music, dance, self-expression and comedy – the global program will focus its presence in several key categories including: video games, apparel, accessories, novelties, bedding, games, books and more.
“GLEE has hit a high note as one of the most attractive entertainment properties in the market today and ‘Gleeks’ are embracing the show into all aspects of their lives,” said Robert Marick, EVP of Fox Consumer Products. “The merchandise launch will allow fans to continue to engage and express themselves in ways that are core to the essence of the show. We’ve held back this launch in order to create an event at retail, and to give fans the special attention they deserve in these products.”
Now a bona fide cultural phenomenon, fans of GLEE have proven they don’t just watch the show, they live it, and Fox Consumer Products will introduce the following lines beginning Fall 2010:
Interactive Fox Consumer Products has partnered with Konami Digital Entertainment to bring one of the most anticipated games to Wii™ this fall–Karaoke Revolution Glee. In Karaoke Revolution Glee, gamers can sing alongside their favorite GLEE characters, performing some of the most memorable scenes from Season One.
Apparel & Accessories Fox Consumer Products will bring GLEE-inspired style to the consumer through its line of fashion-forward apparel and accessories from partners including Awake, Inc., Briefly Stated/LFUSA (sleepwear, loungewear & intimates), Accessory Innovations (bags, small leather goods), Berkshire Fashions (headwear, cold weather accessories, hosiery) and others. Awake Inc.’s extensive line of fashion apparel, t-shirts, fashion tops, sweatshirts and jackets will launch exclusively at Macy’s in August and will remain exclusive through holiday 2010. Claire’s will debut its exclusive GLEE jewelry in September.
The UK and Ireland will launch with an apparel program through partners Smith & Brooks and BCI International this fall with a wider range of apparel lines to rollout throughout 2011.
Publishing, Social Expressions & Novelties Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will launch the GLEE publishing program in the fall, with the first in a series of GLEE original novels along with a deluxe gift book. To compliment the program, C&D Visionary, Inc. will introduce stickers, patches, magnets, buttons, tattoos and more to the U.S. and Canada. For social expressions in the U.S. and Canada, Trends International, LLC has been tapped to introduce bookmarks and posters, P.C. Woo, Inc. will release holiday gift sets and Sky High International will make Back-to-School something to look forward to with branded pens, notebooks, school planners and more, and Hallmark will launch a line of greeting cards with sound that capture the show’s humor.
In the U.K and Ireland Danilo Promotions will develop calendars and diaries, while GB Eye will introduce posters, prints, postcards, tattoos and more. UK Greetings Ltd rounds out the stationery category with a line of greeting cards, gift wrap and gift bags. BB Designs Europe Ltd will also introduce mugs, cushions, lamps, clocks, umbrellas and other gifts for fans of the show.
Electronics & Games Griffin International will be developing a GLEE karaoke machine, boom box and other electronic devices. For games that do not require batteries, Fox Consumer Products has signed Cardinal Industries to introduce board games, trivia games and puzzles that will test even the best “Gleek’s” knowledge.
Bedding & Beauty In the bedding category, Fox Consumer Products has tapped Franco & Sons, Inc. for a line of customized bedding, decorative pillows, night lights and more. This partnership reinforces Fox Consumer Products’ commitment to developing a long-term lifestyle brand and is mirrored by recent deals in the beauty category for cosmetics and bath products from Added Extras in the U.S. and FB Beauty Ltd in the UK.
Promotions Adding another trophy to its case, GLEE has demonstrated the ability to attract blue chip promotional partners in its first season. Fox Consumer Products recently partnered with Dove Hair Care to promote GLEE Live!, a wildly popular, sold-out concert experience. The partnership continues through August with a fully-integrated marketing campaign, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes tour footage and an online sweepstakes on www.dovegleeforall.com
As its freshman year comes to a close, it has already been announced that GLEE will be returning for a third season. GLEE will return this fall to kick off its second season on Tuesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) and GLEE: The Complete First Season will release worldwide on DVD and Blu-ray on September 14.
