BLE Preview: Target Entertainment Group

BRANDORA Editorial Staff - August 2010

Brand management company Target Entertainment Group’s main focus at Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) will be the prestigious PlayStation® brand, plus a range of exciting PlayStation software IPs (Intellectual Properties).

The PlayStation® brand includes the PlayStation logo, the format logos: PS one®, PlayStation®2 (PS2™), PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®3 (PS3™), DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller designs and well known PlayStation symbols and phrases like ‘The Game is Just the Start’. Opportunities for licensing include stationary, apparel, luggage, gifts and homewares.

Sackboy™, the cheeky, cool character from unique platform game LittleBigPlanet™ is proving to be particularly popular among licensees, with deals already signed for publishing, plush and accessories, adult and children’s clothing, posters and much more.

Product lines from Brazier and Co, incorporating keyrings/zip pulls, a range of PVC figures including special editions Afro Sackboy and Sackgirl Rock, plus a LittleBigPlanet Sackboy holder have been selling through well in retailers such as HMV, Play.com, The Hut and Firebox.com. This autumn will also see the release of kid’s clothing from Smith and Brooks, boy’s nightwear from Ackroyd’s, plush, bags and mugs from Impact, collectable mini figurines from Eaglemoss and a LittleBigPlanet Ultimate Official Guide from Penguin.

Joining LittleBigPlanet and its eponymous hero at Olympia will be family-targeted IPs Invizimals™ and EyePet™, two entertaining, interactive family-targeted games which both launched successfully in 2009. The focus for Invizimals - a unique monster hunting game for PSP™ - is collectables and trading cards. Licensing opportunities for EyePet, an imaginative and engaging pet nurturing game which allows children and families to experience the magic of a virtual pet in their living room, include plush and collectables. A version of EyePet supported with the PlayStation®Move motion controller launches this month (September), followed by a PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) version later in the year.

Other properties Target will be representing at BLE include the fashion and lifestyle brand Brit Chicks and pre-school animation Fluffy Gardens.

Targeted at a 7+ age group, Brit Chicks centres around an all-girl pop group and is loaded with fashion, music and fun. The brand is supported by a successful social networking website www.britchicks.com where girls can make friends, chat and share adventures in a virtual world. The site has proved to be very successful, in its first six months it attracted over 200,000 users. The licensing programme for Brit Chicks extends into publishing, gifts and accessories.

Fluffy Gardens is an 80x7’ 2D animation series aimed at pre-schoolers that airs daily on Mini CiTV in the UK. Each episode contains a gently paced story featuring one of forty different colourful and quirky animal characters who all inhabit Fluffy Gardens. Licensing opportunities include apparel, playsets and collectables.

Attending BLE for Target will be Helen Howells, commercial director and Richard Woolf, director of licensing. Target will be operating from stand no E060.
