Snoopy, the canine hero of the much-loved Peanuts cartoon strip, is set to take to the air as part of a very special transatlantic flight organised by the Wings of Help children’s charity and supported by Peanuts licensing agents CPLG UK and CPLG Germany.

The ’World Children’s Flight’ will see the legendary Sikorsky S-38 flying boat, as flown by Charles Lindbergh and made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio`s nightflight over Los Angeles in the film ’The Aviator’, depart Minneapolis on 21st August 2010 and fly to Germany. The pilot will be Tom Schrade, who actually flew the plane in the movie, and co-pilots will be gliding world champion Bruno Gantenbring and astronaut Dr. Ulf Merbold. Condor Airlines will handle technical support for the flight and the mission is also supported by the family of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz.

The S-38 is set for a touchdown in the UK en-route, when the plane will arrive at the Imperial War Museum Duxford on Saturday August 28th to take part in a special charity event. Members from the charity Reach and the British Disabled Flying Club will be attending the landing, meeting the pilots, and perhaps even going up in the plane. This will represent the last time the S-38 will ever fly into the UK, as it will be retired to a museum shortly after the flight.

Various TV stations around the world are set to film the flight and it will also be the subject of a documentary. As patron of the charity, Snoopy is the flight’s mascot and an image of him in flying goggles and scarf will appear on the side of the plane. Snoopy is loved by children throughout the world, which makes him the perfect choice as mascot for this fantastic globetrotting flight!” says Gerold Kolenbrander of CPLG Germany.

Sponsorship is being sought for every mile travelled and anybody who would like to support this epic flight can transfer €10 per air mile to the following account:

Every contributor will instantly receive a donation receipt from Wings of Help and a certificate signed by Frank Franke, President of Wings of Help, and the three pilots.
