Pip, winner of ‘Best Cute Range’ at The Henries Awards 2010, is the creation of top design company Over the Moon and the little black cat is a greetings card sensation, with the designs available in over 500 outlets across the UK high street, including Fenwicks and all branches of John Lewis. This success has been replicated overseas with massive sales being reported in France, Germany, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia and Russia – where Otkrytka has signed a deal to both produce and sell Pip cards. Pip designs are also available on line via Moonpig.com in the US and UK and Slonimuha in Russia.
This strong platform in the greetings sector is being replicated by an impressive licensing programme – KJG has brought on board The Original Metal Sign Company for enamelled metal wall signs and Bluebird Brands for a range of mugs, coasters, purses, wallets and umbrellas that are set to go on sale soon in supermarkets, department stores, independents and garden centres. Shreds has also been signed for a range of products aimed at 2 to 4 year olds, including aprons, mini tote bags, giftpack melamine sets and lunchbags. Pip branded notebooks and party invites, available direct from Over the Moon, are also proving to be a big hit. |
The ongoing strategy for the licensing programme is to target two specific markets: young children, as represented by the Shreds deal, and tweens up to students, as represented by the Bluebird Brands range.
Pip’s increasingly impressive performance has led to considerable interest from the international licensing community and Slovenia-based Maat Entertainment, the licensing division of Moj izziv Ltd., has been brought on board to deal with the huge potential that exists for the brand in Eastern and South-eastern Europe.
“We are very happy to be representing Pip because we see the property as having massive licensing potential,” comments Maat Entertainment CEO Matjaz Frelih, “the brand is simple, colourful and instantly recognisable and we are convinced that, with our efforts, Pip will soon become well known across the region.”
“Pip is red-hot at present and we have chosen the perfect partner in Maat Entertainment to take the brand forward in Eastern and South-eastern Europe,” adds Kirsty Guthrie of KJG Ltd. |
